Good value for a first purchase

Happy with the new chef's knife

So, I finally got myself a Classic Chef's Knife a few weeks ago and I'm really liking it. I'd been using an old dull knife forever, so this was a huge upgrade. It feels really good in my hand, and slicing veggies is so much easier now. The packaging was good, nothing was damaged, and it got to my place in about 5 days, which was faster than I thought it would be. I was a bit worried about the price at first, but honestly, it's been worth it for how much I cook. Definitely makes kitchen stuff more enjoyable.

Mine usually takes about 5-7 business days to LA, from ordering to delivery. So if you order now, you might just make it if there are no weekend delays.

Depends on what day you order. I'm in NorCal and it's usually less than a week for standard shipping. If you need it by next weekend, you'd probably want to order by Monday at the latest, just to be safe.

I've had my Classic chef for like 3 years, no chips. Just gotta be mindful, don't chop frozen stuff or bones with it. It's not a cleaver.

Mine chipped once, but it was totally my fault trying to cut through a really thick squash rind at an awkward angle. If you treat it like the precision instrument it is, you'll be fine.

Is the free sharpening thing actually any good? Or should I just get my own whetstone and learn how to do it myself?

It's decent, especially if you don't wanna mess with learning to sharpen. Just send 'em in and they come back super sharp. Takes a bit to get them back though.

I've used it a few times for my Premier. They do a great job! But yeah, shipping takes time, so you're without your knife for a bit. If you have a few, it's not a big deal.

Anyone know if the Kanso line is worth it over the Classic? Or is it just aesthetics?

I have a Kanso utility knife and love it. It feels a little more rustic, less flashy than the Classic, but still super sharp. Performance-wise, it's pretty comparable for most home cooks, IMO.

Classic is usually what people go for first, it's their flagship. Kanso is cool if you like the look, but I think the Classic offers better value for similar performance. Premier is where you see a noticeable step up.
